Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber

What is a Hyperbaric Chamber?

A Hyperbaric Chamber is an enclosure in which the user breathes in oxygen at levels above normal atmospheric pressure. Therefore, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen while in the chamber. As the pressure increases in the chamber, you may feel your ears plug, similar to when you’re in an airplane or the mountains. Swallowing or chewing gum will help with any discomfort. The increased air pressure in the chamber helps the lungs collect more oxygen. The goal is to fill the blood with enough oxygen to repair tissues and restore body functions. The additional pressure directly infuses oxygen into bodily fluids, including plasma, lymphatic fluid, spinal fluid, and interstitial spaces and tissues. The Two Components of Hyperbaric Oxygen

There are two components to hyperbaric oxygen: increased oxygen concentration and increased air pressure.

Oxygen Concentration

Oxygen is delivered to the hyperbaric chamber from an attached oxygen concentrator.

Air Pressure

Most hyperbaric chambers are pressurized with ambient air, or the air that surrounds you. Our body’s tissues need oxygen to function, and the air we breathe is 21% oxygen. At The ChiroSpa, our Newtowne Class 4 Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, designed for comfort, delivers 96-97% pure oxygen. Just relax and let the therapeutic power of the hyperbaric chamber work on you. How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work?

Typically, oxygen is carried throughout the body by red blood cells. Overall, only a comparatively small amount reaches the plasma portion of the blood. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in Mount Pleasant, SC greatly enhances the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria and stimulates new blood vessels to grow more rapidly into the affected areas.

Low Level Laser Therapy

Throughout the years, cold or low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has become a hot topic in the medical community. LLLT, also called cold laser therapy or photo-biomodulation therapy, is a type of phototherapy designed to repair tissue, reduce pain and inflammation.

How Cold Lasers & Low-Level Lasers Work to Relieve Pain

During treatment, a small low-level laser therapy device emitting laser beam or visible nonthermal lasers is placed over the target area.  The low levels of light penetrate the tissue without heating or damaging the skin.  Unlike traditional lasers, they don’t burn the skin or produce pain, and the FDA gives them NHN (non-heating instruments) classification.  In contrast, a laser used for surgeries cuts through the skin and can lead to severe scarring and pain.

Cold lasers can stimulate all types of cells, including muscle, ligaments, nerves and cartilage.  As a non-invasive, low-intensity therapy procedure, LLLT can be performed at an outpatient clinic, providing a distinct advantage over traditional laser surgery.  There is no recovery time and no side effects.

Shockwave Therapy

Are you unable to participate in activities or hobbies due to chronic pain?  Even with prescription medication, you find it hard to do what you love?  We can help!  Alma Duo is a painless, non-invasive, low-intensity shock wave treatment that uses acoustic waves to stimulate revascularization.  The body naturally responds to the microtrauma that these gentle waves cause by creating new healthy blood vessels.  The optimum number of treatments (less than 30 mins per session) is determined upon consultation.

Long-Term Solution to Long-Term Pain

Low-intensity shock wave therapy has been around since the end of the 1990s and was originally used to treat kidney stones.  Doctors and scientists have now realized its potential to treat a number of other conditions.  It is FDA-approved and often used in orthopedic therapies. Shockwave therapy benefits patients by effectively treating their condition without surgery.  Acoustic waves carry energy that can be focused on the surface of the skin to gently and painlessly penetrate into the targeted body part without the risks associated with invasive pain management.  It is proven to relieve pain caused by conditions that affect the joints, bones, tendons, and muscles.

Infrared Sauna

Only a full-spectrum infrared sauna can deliver all these beneficial wavelengths: Near Infrared, Mid Infrared, and Far Infrared. The combination of the various wavelengths offers a superior list of benefits for our patients.

Infrared therapy assists with rest, relaxation, and more. Infrared saunas can help boost heart health and reduce high blood pressure, soothe sore muscles, provide pain relief, improve athletic performance, aid in relaxation, lead to better sleep, and fight off illness.

According to the Mayo Clinic, infrared saunas may even assist in the treatment of long-lasting health problems like heart failure, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, headache, type 2 diabetes, and arthritis. At the end of the day, regardless of your goal, time in our infrared sauna is guaranteed to relax you and should become an integral part of your health practices.

Salt Booth

This is a holistic approach that mimics the microclimate of a salt cave. Dry salt air is dispersed into our enclosed environment through a unique process generated by a halogenerator. Pure “dry” sodium chloride is heated and ground up. The micro-sized crushed salt particles are then dispersed into the air in an enclosed environment.

The salt in the air allows you to relax and breathe in healing. We use naturally sourced and processed, 99.99% pure sodium chloride (pharmaceutical grade salt) containing no fillers or caking agents. This is a fantastic method of self-care and relaxation to help you take a meditative break from life’s stressors.

Cold Plunge

Cold Water Plunging has been proven to offer immune system support, increase blood flow, reduce chronic pain, boost your metabolism, and provide better sleep. It can also improve your energy, mood, discipline, performance, and resilience.

Cold plunging has shown the ability to increase your baseline dopamine. Sitting in a barrel or bathtub filled with ice-cold water may sound a bit crazy. Still, people worldwide do it regularly for its potential health benefits. Time in The ChiroSpa cold plunge will prove why.
