The ChiroSpa team is excited to now offer halotherapy! You may have heard it referred to as dry Salt Therapy, which is a holistic approach that mimics the microclimate of a salt cave. As pure “dry” sodium chloride is heated and ground, the micro-sized crushed, salt particles are dispersed into the air by a halo-generator and absorbed through the lungs and skin.

Dry Salt Therapy or halotherapy has been a part of natural wellness since the 19th century. For more information on research, please visit the Global Wellness Institute and the World Halotherapy Association.

Health Benefits of Salt Therapy

‌Studies have found that halotherapy can have benefits for respiratory conditions, skin problems, and allergies. Salt is a natural and safe ingredient.

Natural healing properties include:

  • Mucoactive, clearing up mucus from your airways.
  • Antibacterial, helping prevent infections.
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Immunity-boosting
  • Anti-allergic

‌These properties make halotherapy a strong contender in the treatment and supplemental treatment of:

  • Asthma
  • Sinusitis
  • Rhinitis
  • Smoking-related breathing problems
  • Respiratory allergies
  • Bronchitis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Cold or cough
  • Cystic fibrosis

The tiny salt particles used in salt therapy can also help repair your skin cells and protect your skin from aging and infection. Salt therapy has been reported to ease the symptoms associated with the following skin conditions:

  • Acne and rosacea
  • Skin allergies
  • Rash
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Dermatitis
  • Fungal infection such as onychomycosis
  • Wrinkles and signs of aging skin

At The ChiroSpa, we use 99.99% pure sodium chloride (Pharmaceutical grade salt). It contains no fillers or caking agents. It does come from a natural source but it is naturally processed to remove all of its impure elements. This is the same salt that hospitals use and is the same type of salt all the research has been conducted on.

We do not recommend Himalayan or sea salt as it is not stripped of all the impurities. There could be dirt, clay or some type of debris that could be harmful to the lungs.

Side Effects of Salt Therapy

Halotherapy can have some side effects. As your lungs and nasal passages clear, you may experience and increase in coughing and mucus secretion.

Avoid halotherapy if you have:

  • Hyperthyroidism
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Tuberculosis
  • Heart problems
  • Respiratory failure
  • Blood disorders like anemia, hemophilia, or clotting
  • Infectious diseases
  • Fever
  • Open wounds
  • Malignant diseases such as cancer

Frequently Asked Questions

What is salt therapy (halotherapy)?

Salt therapy, or halotherapy, is a holistic treatment that mimics the microclimate of a natural salt cave. Pure dry sodium chloride is ground into micro-sized particles and dispersed into the air, where it’s absorbed through the lungs and skin.

What are the benefits of salt therapy?

Studies suggest halotherapy can help with respiratory conditions, skin problems, and allergies. Salt has natural mucoactive, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, immunity-boosting, and anti-allergic properties.

Is salt therapy safe?

Salt is a natural and safe ingredient, and halotherapy is considered a gentle, non-invasive therapy. If you have a specific medical condition, it’s always best to check with your healthcare provider first.

How does a salt therapy session work?

During a session you relax in a salt booth while a halogenerator disperses pharmaceutical-grade dry salt into the air. You simply breathe normally and let the salt particles work.

How often should I do salt therapy?

Frequency depends on your wellness goals and any conditions you’re addressing. Some people enjoy regular sessions, while others come in periodically. Our team can recommend a routine suited to your needs.
